The Deadline Club is stretching the deadline for its awards contest.
We’re in a winter of discontent, as polar vortexes and snowstorms with names wreak havoc on New Yorkers, from commuters to the new mayor. With such unwelcome distractions slowing things down, we’re giving everyone an extra two weeks to enter our prestigious contest that honors excellence in 31 categories of New York journalism.
Entries will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. EST on Feb. 28 (instead of Feb. 14). As before, all entries must have been submitted to our contest website by the deadline.
The rest of the contest schedule still holds. Finalists will be announced in April and winners will be announced on May 19 at the Annual Awards Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria. The top prize for each category is a Rube Award, our unique statuettes designed in 1968 by Rube Goldberg, the “Dean of American cartoonists.”
The 2014 contest covers work that was published or broadcast in 2013. The Club added a new category to our awards contest this year, “Digital Innovation,” for the best development or use of digital tools that enhance journalism.
