The 2025 Deadline Club Awards Contest Opens

The Deadline Club's journalism competition, one of the most prestigious in New York, is now open for entries.

The 2025 contest covers work that was published or broadcast in 2024 by news organizations in the New York metropolitan area. Entrants must be employees of or freelance journalists for news organizations with an office within a 50-mile radius of Columbus Circle in New York City.

There are 36 categories covering all media formats. It is important to review the categories carefully to determine entry eligibility.

There are two contest deadlines

January 31

The first deadline is January 31 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The fee is $90 per entry. Beginning February 1, the fee is $120 per entry.

February 12

The final deadline is February 12, at 11:59 p.m. ET. No submissions will be accepted beyond this time.

How to submit

The contest is managed by BetterBNC, which requires contestants to create an Open Call Contestant account. More information on how to enter this year’s contest is available via the button below.

Finalists will be announced in early April, and winners will be announced during the Deadline Club’s annual awards dinner in mid-May. Each winner will receive a “Rube,” an award statuette designed exclusively for the Deadline Club by Rube Goldberg, the “dean of American cartoonists.”

Each year, the awards program features prominent figures in journalism as guest speakers. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Become a judge

The Deadline Club invites you to apply to become a judge for this year’s awards contest. You do not have to be a member. Judging will begin in mid-to-late February and continue over the course of March. Each judge works as part of a small team to evaluate entries in various categories
 
As a judge, you’ll play a pivotal role in honoring your journalism colleagues.
