The Deadline Club has chosen Marty Baron as its guest interviewee for its annual awards dinner set for May 22 at The Harvard Club. Martin “Marty” Baron became executive editor of The Washington Post on January 2, 2013. He oversees the Post’s print and digital news operations and a staff of about 700 journalists. In 2014, The Post won two Pulitzer Prizes, one in the category of public service for revelations of secret surveillance by the National Security Agency and the other for explanatory journalism about food stamps in America. In 2015, The Post won the Pulitzer Prize for national reporting for its coverage of security lapses in the Secret Service. In 2016, The Post won the Pulitzer Prize in the category of national reporting for a ground-breaking project that chronicled every killing by a police officer last year. During his 11 ½ years there, The Globe won six Pulitzer prizes—for public service, explanatory journalism, national reporting and criticism. The Pulitzer Prize for Public Service was awarded to the Globe in 2003 for its investigation into a pattern of concealing clergy sex abuse in the Catholic Church. Prior to the Globe, he held top editing positions at The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and The Miami Herald. Under his leadership, The Miami Herald won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Coverage in 2001 for its coverage of the raid to recover Elián González, the Cuban boy at the center of a fierce immigration and custody dispute. Baron was named Editor of the Year by Editor & Publisher magazine in 2001, and Editor of the Year by the National Press Foundation in 2004.

that awards up to four $2,500 scholarships — or up to $10,000 — each year.
Over 80 judges work through hundreds of pieces and choose winners in our 31 categories.

Member tickets: Early-bird – $220 (ends May 8) Standard – $250 Nonmember tickets: Early-bird – $295 (ends May 8) Standard – $325 Tables of 10: Early-bird – $2,950 Standard – $3,250 EARLY-BIRD PRICING: Ticket prices will rise after 11:59 p.m. on May 8. After that date, individual tickets will rise by $30 and a table of 10 will rise by $300. Tickets will remain on sale until the event, based on availability.

About the Program
The program will include the presentation of the Deadline Club Annual Awards in print, radio, television and online journalism, as well as scholarships to New York area students and the annual journalism educator of the year award. Proceeds will support scholarships and other programs of the Deadline Club.
