Apply for a McGraw Center for Business Journalism Grant

Earn up to $15k in Grant Funds

Grants up to $15K for Investigative and Enterprise Business Reporting — Apply by May 31
Do you — or a reporter you know — have a great idea for an investigative or enterprise story on a business or economic topic, but few resources to get it done?  If so, the McGraw Center for Business Journalism would like to hear from you.

Spring 2017 applications are now open for the McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism, an initiative of the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism launched in 2014. The Fellowships, awarded twice a year, provide experienced journalists with the funds and editorial support needed to report in-depth stories on critical issues related to U.S. business and the economy.

The upcoming deadline to apply is May 31, 2017
  • Each Fellow receives $5,000 a month for up to three months
  • No residency is required; McGraw Fellows work from their own offices
  • Open to both freelance and staff journalists with five years experience
  • Applications accepted from both reporters and editors
What kind of stories do we fund? Check out two new Fellowship pieces that have just been published: What Would Jesus Disrupt?, Mya Frazier’s story in Bloomberg Businessweek looking at how Silicon Valley is meeting Midwest evangelism at a megachurch founded by P&G executives, or Public Universities Get an Education in Private Industry, Molly McClusky’s examination of the growing role of corporate money in funding academic research for TheAtlantic.com. Other previous Fellows have explored topics ranging from the conflicts of interest in the fast-growing, unregulated market for diagnostic genetic tests and the questions raised by the Chinese acquisitions of a major food company, to Silicon Valley’s efforts to build a better (plant-based) burger that will make the meat industry obsolete.

If you’d like to join them, you’ll find more information and the online application at www.mcgrawcenter.org. Feel free to contact us with any questions or if you have a project you’d like to discuss.
